Goblin Slayer anime episode 10 dropped in Japan Sunday, December 9, 2018, on television. If you live in the US, then the release date must be Saturday, December 8, 2018, on the Crunchyroll streaming service online. While the people who live in the fantasy world of Goblin Slayer go on adventures, become heroes, and celebrate their victories, that may not last because sometimes life is about change.
This anime episode was mainly about the simple things and less about adventuring. The character interactions play an important role in this episode of Goblin Slayer. In my opinion, the tone wasn’t dark for almost the entire episode, but there were some very deep themes involving the concept of how life is about change. I also noticed the spectacular direction of animation and sound that occurred in the first three minutes of the episode, but of course the rest of the episode had top-notch cinematography as well.
After Goblin Slayer and the gang return home from Water Town, everyone goes back to doing their usual and simple routines before going out on another adventure. The main set of characters as well as certain background characters take time to be festive, relax, and enjoy each other’s company. Goblin Slayer also contemplates about his future because life is about change and he wants to be prepared for changing his lifestyle when that day inevitably comes.
The Hero is the talk of the town and the capital after her party defeated the scourge of earth. She and her party are rewarded fairly well for their achievement. Their victory has caused public opinion to believe that all the other monsters will be kept at bay.
More is shown of Goblin Slayer’s past of the good times he had spending with his oldest sister. When he was young he had dreams that did not involve slaying goblins, but the incident he experienced as a child completely demolished those dreams. Anyway, back in present day Goblin Slayer has a banquet with his acquaintances and contemplates about his future.
The Cow Girl finally gets to spend some time with Goblin Slayer’s friends. She also has thoughts about what may come of Goblin Slayer’s future.
Tone & Theme
The tone was very much dark in the first three minutes of the episode where Goblin Slayer is monologues about the way things could have been and what he’s saying is kind of depressing. But behind the monologue, there is also an intense scene of the Hero fighting an evil force.
With the rest of the episode, there were no intense battles or something expressively dark going on. Only joyful and peaceful things occurred in this episode.
Though, at the ending of the episode, the audience is presented with a shocking scene.
The themes of this episode include stuff such as what could have been, how things are in the present, and how things will inevitably be in the future.
Animation & Sound
As I said before, the animation was extremely above average in the first three minutes of this episode. What stood out to me the most was the use of the color red, and there were also great character designs, explosive action, and the lighting was amazing. The rest of the episode also had above average and beautiful animation even though there wasn’t much action in this episode. The direction of the music, sound effects, and voice acting was above average as well.
Goblin Slayer Anime Episode 10 – Final Thoughts
While the episode was not as action-packed, I was intrigued by all the characters simple moments in the episode. Though, within those simple moments there were complex themes of the past, present, and future. I also thoroughly enjoyed the character interactions and their playful banter. This may not have been the best episode, but the viewing experience was interesting and I like certain things that are being set up for the story going forward.
The plot of this episode was slow-paced, but it was fun to watch and important for developing the story. I definitely liked the dynamic between characters as well as their characterization. If you really pay attention, you will notice some mild dark undertones surrounding how mostly easy-going this episode was, and there is some very deep themes that were either obvious or somewhat vague. The first three minutes of the episode is a treat to look at, although, it wasn’t anything too special, but it wasn’t displeasing to look at either.
Based on my analysis, I give this episode a score of 7.5 out of 10.
